Naga City, Cebu: A Booming New City

Naga City, Cebu: Home to the most modern coal-fired power plant in Cebu.

When you say Naga City in Cebu, one might assume it has anything to do with Camarines sur or Zamboanga Sibugay, for there are a lot of provinces within the Philippines which uses the word “Naga” for a city, and has undoubtedly caused a lot of confusion not just with foreign tourists but even to its own citizens.

But when you hear the word power plant, then Naga city, Cebu is definitely the place to be.  It is one of the most promising city in Cebu due to the presence of large power plants and high-priced infrastructure projects such as the sports oval which caused roughly P68 million.

It takes about 45 minutes to one hour to get to Naga city from Cebu city. It has an estimate population of about 100,000 as of 2010 census and consists of 28 number of barangays:  Alpaco, Bairan, Balirong, Cabungahan, Cantao-an, Central Poblacion, Cogon, Colon, East Poblacion, Inoburan, Inayagan, Jaguimit, Lanas, Langtad, Lutac, Mainit, Mayana, Naalad, North Poblacion, Pangdan, Patag, South Poblacion,Tagjaguimit, Tangke, Tinaan, Tuyan, Uling and West Poblacion.

Officially becoming a city in 2009, Naga City, Cebu is where all of its citizens take pride with having just a simple neighborhood but offers non-stop improvement for the entire city which makes it an automatic eye candy for every traveler in search of great things.

Naga’s Baywalk

It appears Roxas Boulevard is not the only place where famous Baywalk is located. Naga’s Baywalk is much loved not just a much by locals but also by tourists from all over the country. You can go by normal picnics with family and friends or check out a wide variety of food stalls.  Whether it’s sunrise or sunset, nothing beats an hour or two of relaxed stroll while listening to good music and enjoying the scenic view.

 Saint Francis of Assisi Parish

The Archdiocesan shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi was built around 17th century and is made up of coal and limestone which make its interior simple but pleasing to the eye. It is also where famous mass weddings are held. What makes this particular church even more interesting is the incredible façade consisting of images or symbols resembling to Islamic moldings and its remarkable bell tower. Its annual festival celebration is held during 1st of October and ends in the 10th of the same month and tourists from different locations gather to celebrate this spiritual feast.

Villa Dulce

If you’re opting for a relaxing summer getaway with a taste of nature then Villa Dulce is a must-see for all nature lovers out there. It’s a mountain view resort located in Pangan city, Naga which has two large pools; an adult pool and kiddie pool, and has a total of eight rooms or villas perfect for large groups and offers complete amenities such as function hall and karaoke lounge. The resort is perfect for family outings or if you just want to take a quick dip on a weekend with your friends.

It has been evident that when anyone sees a shopping mall within a province, you just can’t help but think you’re safe. Due to extreme comfort experienced by living in the urban, searching for fast food, grocery stores, clothing shops and even gadget stores, when you’re in the rural areas have been considered a challenge for some. Metro Shopping center serves as a proof that Naga city is highly commercialized, well-run and modernized that any visitor won’t have anything to worry about if they need to purchase anything they need.


So for all travelers who are so much into exploring the wonderful places in the southern part of Cebu, then Naga City, Cebu is certainly not to be missed.
