Simala Shrine

When you take a glimpse of this church’s old intricate designs, you can’t help but notice its similarities with a castle comparable with Cinderella due to its long staircase at the main entrance.  You can’t help but experience extreme feeling of solemn wonder while exploring both the exterior and interior of this prominent church.

Going to Simala shrine takes about two hours away from Cebu city. You can take a cab, rented van or you can also go by normal transportation via South Bus Terminal, where you can ride another bus going to Sibonga, and a motorcycle ride or habal habal from there to get to Simala Shrine.

Devotees similar to Manaoag also flock to the church mostly during weekends. So for visitors, the best day to visit is by weekdays from Mondays to Thursdays, to avoid a large number of people gathered together inside the church.

Similar to the Taoist temple in Cebu city, appropriate attire should be worn within the church grounds. No slippers, shoes, shorts, sleeveless shirts are prohibited especially on the way to the altar, the spot where the statue of Blessed Virgin Mary can be found.

A visit to the church was not just an incredible experience but also a monumental place definitely a place worth going and visiting within Cebu.
